Bell County Judge Jon Burrows, with his band of Commissioners
in tow, approved the construction of a 630-bed jail at a cost of $42 million. To avoid having their decision challenged again
by an incensed electorate, they have decided to use limited tax notes to fund the project.
In a recent Temple
Daily Telegram article, Jail Admiistrator Bob Patterson was quoted as saying, "The county commisisoners put a lot of thought
in it. It was not well-received." Sorry, Mr. Patterson, it was not a matter of public reception - the proposed project
was REJECTED OUTRIGHT - NOT ONCE, BUT TWICE.
